Carnival Elation Passenger Confesses Murder Overboard (see video below) – Tamara Loraine Tucker, 50, from Lawson, Missouri, was murdered by her “longtime love” Eric Duane Newman, 53, on Friday, January 19, 2018, during a celebration for her 50th birthday. The couple was aboard Carnival Cruise Lines’ ship Carnival Elation, which embarked from Jacksonville, Florida, for a four-night cruise.
Federal prosecutors announced Newman was charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. in Kansas District Court.
According to the admissions made in connection with the plea, “Newman and Tucker boarded the Carnival Elation cruise ship on January 18, 2019, in Jacksonville, Florida, to take a round-trip voyage to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Newman and Tucker were staying together in a cabin room on the 13th deck of the cruise ship.
Before midnight on January 18, 2019, Newman became involved in a verbal argument with Tucker inside their cabin room. At approximately 12:15 a.m. on January. 19, Newman physically attacked Tucker, and strangled her by placing both of his hands around her neck. In the process of strangling her, Newman pushed Tucker over the cabin room balcony railing causing her to fall to her death onto the 11th deck. Ms. Tucker died from blunt force trauma as a result of the fall. At the time, the cruise ship was sailing on the high seas in international water, approximately 30 nautical miles from New Smyrna Beach, Florida.”
Sentencing has been scheduled for March 18, 2020, before Chief U.S. District Judge Julie A. Robinson.
Eric Duane Newman, 55, of Topeka, Kansas, pleaded to guilty in federal court on Thursday, December 19, 2019, to one count of second-degree murder with malice aforethought for the January 2018 death of his 50-year-old girlfriend, Tamara Tucker, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Eric Newman who lives in Topeka, Kansas is a member of the Celebrate Tamara Loraine Tucker’s Life Facebook Group. He was added by Tamara’s sister, Bo Tucker on January 27, 2018. He posted to the page on April 7, “I miss u more than u will ever know I hope some day soon we can be reunited. Love always and forever”.
Carnival Elation Birthday Murders
California Passenger Shirley McGill was also murdered aboard Carnival Elation. Shirley McGill, 55, from Winnetka, California was on a five-night Mexican Riviera cruise with her husband Robert. Around 2100 hours on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, ship security received a phone call indicating a woman may be dead in her cabin. That woman was Shirley McGill, who was celebrating her 55th birthday.
