Carnival Ecstasy Bahamas Excursion Bus Crash Dozens Injured – On Monday, June 24, 2019, around 11:00 in the morning, a Carnival Cruise Lines cruise ship Carnival Ecstasy excursion tour bus driven by Bahamas local Walter Pinder, was involved a horrific accident. (see video below) Pinder was employed by Eleuthera Adventure Tours in the Bahamas and was en route from Princess Cays when the bus overturned between Rock Sound and Green Castle.
The tour excursion bus was transporting 32 passengers on the $69.99 per passenger Cathedral Cove, Ocean Hole, and Rock Sound Island Tour in the Bahamas. The group booked a private charter tour with Eleuthera Adventures in South Eleuthera and were scheduled to visit the Cathedral Caves.
Passengers Allege Mechanical Failure
At some point during the journey, the power steering of the excursion bus malfunctioned. “The power steering in the vehicle failed and caused the entire bus to lock up. Once the power steering locked in the bus, it caused everything else to shut down and the driver was unable to control the vehicle. The driver tried everything he could to regain control of the runaway bus; but his attempts were fruitless.”, an unnamed passenger aboard claimed.
On Monday, the Bahamas Public Hospitals Authority released a press statement requesting blood donations for five people involved in the accident who was critically injured. “An urgent call for blood donations has been issued. Donations may be made at the Princess Margaret Hospital Blood Bank and Doctors Hospital Blood Bank.”
Victims of the accident were transported to the Rock Sound Community Clinic by EMS personnel for treatment; however, those who sustained more serious injuries were airlifted from the island for further care.
Four people were too serious to treat in the Bahamas; the critically injured were flown back to the U.S. on a US military C-130 transport plane, which flew the Broward-bound group to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue met the plane.
