HAL Nieuw Statendam Drifting At Sea After Power Failure – On Sunday, March 23, 2019, Holland America Line Nieuw Statendam cruise ship lost power which resulted in blackouts and a canceled port of call at Half Moon Cay,  Bahamas.

Due to the delay and an abundance of caution, while the cause of the blackout was being addressed, the scheduled last port call at Half Moon Cay was cancelled. The repair is complete and Nieuw Statendam is proceeding as scheduled.

Nieuw Statendam embarked from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on March 23, 2019 on a 7-night Southern Caribbeam Cruise with scheduled calls at Amber Cove, Dominican Republic ; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Republic; St Thomas, US Virgin Islands and Half Moon Cay, Bahamas before returning to Ft. Lauderdale.

The Holland America Line cruise ship Nieuw Statendam went into service on December 5, 2018. She’s the second of HAL’s Pinnacle-class ships, her name alludes to five previous HAL ships named Statendam. Nieuw Statendam will spend summer and autumn 2019 operating sailings in northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
