CheerForce Coach Sexually Assaults Colleague Aboard Carnival Inspiration – On Wednesday, July 1, 2015, a former cheerleading coach Anthony Paul De La Torriente (aka Anthony P Delatorriente, Anthony Delatorrien , A Delatorriente, Anthony Paul Delatorrien), 30,  from Simi Valley, California, allegedly sexually assaulted a severely intoxicated fellow colleague.

Both passengers were aboard Carnival Cruise Line ship Carnival Inspiration, during a 3-day Fourth of July cruise from Long Beach, California to Ensenada, Mexico at the time of the assault.

De La Torriente was sailing with his female colleague, who was then aged 20. Both were working for CheerForce, a Californian gymnastics and cheerleading training center with facilities in Orange County, Fresno, San Diego and Simi Valley.

The jury found De La Torriente, guilty of one count of sexual abuse and one count of abusive sexual contact, and found that he knew the victim was unable to consent, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said in a news release. The woman reported the attack to medical and security staff aboard the cruise. The assault was confirmed by De La Torriente’s DNA taken with swabs in and around the victim’s genitals and De La Torriente’s underwear, according to the Exhibit List (see link below).

The 20-year-old victim named only as “A.B.”, had become heavily intoxicated during a daytime excursion in Ensenada, officials said.  De La Torriente volunteered to stay alone in the victim’s cabin [Inside cabin M27]while the rest of the group went to get food aboard the cruise ship, authorities said.

De La Torriente was convicted of sexually assaulted her once they were alone, and the others later returned to find the victim’s cabin door had been double-locked from the inside, according to prosecutors. “When De La Torriente eventually unlocked the door and allowed their colleagues inside, the victim identified De La Torriente as her assailant,” the news release states.

De La Torriente’s DNA was found on swabs taken from the victim’s body, and the victim’s DNA was found on swabs taken from inside and outside of De La Torriente’s underwear.

United States District Judge Dale S. Fischer has scheduled a June 10 sentencing hearing.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Cassie D. Palmer of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section and Jeffrey M. Chemerinsky of the Violent and Organized Crime Section.
