Cruise Ship Captain JP III Drifting After Moorings Break – On Friday, January 25, 2019, the Captain JP III Hudson River cruise ship was one of four vessels which broke loose from its moorings. Rising water and ice jams, covered the river surface taking several vessels downriver from Troy to Albany, New York.
Rising water and ice jams on the Hudson River caused the Captain JP III, the Rusty Anchor Restaurant Barge and several tug boats to break free from their moorings in Troy, according to Troy Police.
Captain JP, struck the Congress Street Bridge and was wedged against the Livingston Ave Amtrak bridge in Rensselaer, New York.
The Rusty Anchor is now securely tied up at the Port of Albany after breaking free from its moorings from Green Island.
The Captain JP Cruise Line website states, “The Captain JP III is a four deck cruise ship, certified by the United States Coast Guard to accommodate 600 passengers and seat 400 people comfortably for dinner. The Captain JP III has three completely enclosed decks, equipped with central air and heat, along with full service bars and a dance floor on each deck. Our summer dock is in downtown Troy at 278 River Street Troy NY 12180.”
