Carnival Fantasy Passenger Overboard Near Progreso Mexico – On Sunday, December 16, 2018, passenger Luke Renner, 22, from Johns Creek, Georgia deliberately jumped off Carnival Cruise Lines ship Carnival Fantasy.

Renner who is on the Autism Spectrum, was joined by nine of his friends and three chaperones on the ship. Renner climbed over a ship’s deck rail, going overboard during the cruise from Mobile, Alabama to the western Caribbean.

Renner’s parents Bruce and D’Ann were not aboard for the cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line released a statement, “A 22-year-old male guest with special needs was reported missing late Sunday evening on Carnival Fantasy while the ship was en route to its scheduled Monday call in Progreso, Mexico. He is part of an organized group of nine traveling with three chaperones, and was last seen in his stateroom. He ran without warning out of the stateroom, and after his chaperone was unsuccessful in locating him, the chaperone notified the ship’s crew.

Once notified that the guest was missing, the ship’s crew followed all protocols, including onboard announcements and a ship-wide search. The security team reviewed closed circuit television footage of the ship’s perimeter multiple times. While in port in Progreso on Monday, the Mexican Navy provided a search-and-rescue canine to assist in the search, but there was not any conclusive result as to his whereabouts. All relevant authorities have been notified.

While the onboard search continues, we have activated our CareTeam to provide support to the guest’s family and traveling companions. Our dual focus remains on locating the guest, and supporting his family, as well as his traveling companions.”
