Havana Cuba Norwegian Sky Passengers Left High-Dry – On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, Norwegian Cruise Lines had changed the scheduled departure time at Havana from 5:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Passengers were notified of the departure time, but inspite of Norwegian Sky notifcation to passengers, two were left high and dry in Havana, Cuba. Ooops.

Kevin Rohrer and his girlfriend returned to the dock to reboard Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship Norwegian Sky only to discover no ship at the dock when they returned from exploring Havana. The couple had booked a shore excusion through a private excursion company, instead of the cruise line. Apparently, the couple missed the Captain’s note posted to their cabin, before they missed the boat.

A newsletter sent to all cabins, said passengers in Havana should be “all aboard (the ship at) 1:30pm”, as the ship would be leaving port at 2:00 pm.

In its response to Mr Rohrer’s complaint, Norwegian directed him to its terms and conditions, which read: “In all ports of call, it is also the guest’s responsibility to be back on-board the ship no later than one (1) hour prior to the ship’s scheduled departure time. Please be aware that shipboard time may differ from the port of call and it is the guest’s responsibility to follow the shipboard time. In the event a guest misses the ship, it will be the guest’s responsibility to pay all expenses incurred to rejoin the ship.”

Norwegian Passenger Contract

“Itinerary Deviation: The Guest agrees that the Carrier has the sole discretion and liberty to direct the movements of the vessel, including the rights to: proceed without pilots and tow, and assist other vessels in all situations; deviate from the purchased voyage or the normal course for any purpose, including, without  limitation, in the interest of Guests or of the vessel, or to save life or property; put in at any unscheduled or unadvertised port; cancel any scheduled call at any port for any reason and at any time before, during or after sailing of the vessel; omit, advance or delay landing at any scheduled or advertised port; return to port of embarkation or to any port previously visited if the Carrier deems it prudent to do so; substitute another vessel or port(s) of call without prior notice and without incurring any liability to the Guest on account thereof for any loss, damage or delay whatsoever, whether consequential or otherwise.”

Sadly, this happens all too frequently. Cruise Ship Wave has created a playlist of ten times passengers were left at the dock.  As we reported on April 30, 2017, there was one couple who were habitual offenders. Michael and Louise Rossi were shamed by Carnival Cruise Director,  John Heald for being late to the cruise ship in three consecutive ports, Monte Carlo, Florence and Rome, Italy (see video link in resources below).
