

Early Winter Storm Avery Affects Northeast Cruise Ports – Embarking from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York or the Black Falcon Cruise Terminal in Boston may require extra travel time to the terminal, after an early winter storm hits the big apple and northeast. The storm dumped more than 6 inches of snow in the Central Park area.
The first winter storm of the 2018/2019 winter season has been named Winter Storm Avery. Avery, a wicked nor’easter pushed snow, sleet, freezing rain and plain rain across New Jersey and into New York City.
The cruise ship Disney Magic embarks from New York Saturday for the Bahamas and Norwegian Escape embarks for the Caribbean on Sunday.
At one point, the weather service had issued winter storm warnings from western North Carolina to northern Maine. In New York, ABC7NY reported winter storm warnings across Westchester, Putnam and Rockland Counties in New York, parts of northern New Jersey and Connecticut. Between 4-to-8 inches of snow were expected to fall.
The storm brought wet snow and icy rain to the region, resulting in downed tree limbs, hazardous driving conditions and strong wind gusts.
Weather.com reported, “New York City buses were delayed, but most subways were running on time as of 8 a.m. Friday morning after Winter Storm Avery left New York commuters stuck for hours as they tried to make their way home Thursday evening.”
