Kay LongstaffNorwegian Star Passenger Kay Longstaff Overboard Near Croatia – On Saturday, August 18, 2018, around 2345 hours, passenger Kay Longstaff, 46, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom was aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Norwegian Star when she reportedly  jumped overboard from the seventh deck, about 60 miles south of Pula, Croatia. Pula, Croatia is a seafront city on the tip of Croatia’s Istrian Peninsula, on the Adriatic Sea. Pula is known for its protected harbor, beach-lined coast and Roman ruins. The city has a long tradition of wine making, fishing, shipbuilding, and tourism.Kay Longstaff

According to multiple passenger reports Longstaff had been drinking and arguing with boyfriend Craig Rayment throughout the day. During the argument, he went back to their cabin and  she jumped overboard just before midnight.

Longstaff had been treading water all night and showed signs of hypothermia when she was rescued. Norwegian Star Captain Lovro Oreskovic says she was found ten hours later on Sunday morning around 0930 Hours.

According to her linkedin profile, Longstaff is reportedly a former Virgin Atlantic flight attendant who now is a Private Aviation Flight Attendant at Carey International Private Aviation.

Norwegian Star departed from Venice, Italy on Sunday, August 12 for a 7-Day Adriatic & Greece cruise from Venice, Italy.  The cruise ship called at Dubrovnik, Croatia; Kotor, Montenegro; Olympia (Katakolon), Greece; Athens (Piraeus), Greece and Split, Croatia before returning to Venice on Sunday, August 19.

Cabin prices for the 7-Day Adriatic & Greece cruise range from $799 per person for an inside cabin to $1679 for a mini suite.

Other Similar Passenger Overboard Cases

On July 19, 2015,  Flora Stuardo, 53, a banker from Turin, Italy was aboard Costa Fortuna went she went overboard from the cabin balcony where she and her boyfriend Giovanni Piawere guests, while the cruise ship was in Flam, Norway on a nine-day Northern Europe cruise.  Stuardo  reportedly said, “I didn’t try to kill myself, he threw me.” Stuardo later retracted her story.

On May 8, 2013, Kristen Schroder, 26, from Australia, jumped overboard and her fiancé Paul Rossington, 30, jumped in after her in a failed attempted rescue. Neither were recovered.

March 25, 2007, Clarice Partee, 20, went overboard from her Grand Princess cabin balcony and Ernesto Guzman, 22, jumped in after her. The couple were allegedly involved in “an amorous act” while she sat on the railing. Both were recovered.
