Renan Dias Da Rocha Gomes, 32,  was sentenced Tuesday, March 13, 2018 to 15 months in prison after admitted to making about $260,000 worth of unauthorized charges to the Disney Cruise Line company bank account.

Gomes loaded the value of the funds onto Disney gift cards while employed as a merchandise host aboard Disney Wonder over a two-year period that ended with his arrest in San Diego  October 27, 2017. During a search of Gomes’ cabin aboard the Disney Wonder, investigators found more than 200 gift cards, a stolen watch and $1,240 in cash, court documents state.

According to his plea agreement with Joseph J.M. Orabona in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California,  Gomes executed the scheme by fraudulently obtaining money through his access to an online payment system. He also admitted that he spent roughly $37,700 of the stolen funds by taking his family on a Disney World vacation in April 2017.

From April 23, 2017 through May 7, 2017, GOMES spent approximately $35,000 of the embezzled funds for his own personal benefit by taking his family on a Disney World vacation. While on this vacation, GOMES used the gift cards with the embezzled funds on lodging, food, beverage, merchandise, and entertainment. GOMES spent approximately $8, 700 on lodging. GOMES also spent approximately $26,400 on food, beverage, merchandise, and entertainment.
