On Monday, January 15, 2018, Akim Travis Davis Locto, 24, a crew member from Babonneau, Castries, Saint Lucia was arrested aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines cruise ship Norwegian Escape at the Falmouth, (Trelawny) Jamaica (see video below) Shipping Pier in Jamaica.
Locto was arrested after he was allegedly was caught attempting to smuggle a kilogram of cocaine into Jamaica.
Loctor, was arrested when the cruise ship docked at the Falmouth Port, left the ship and was trying to return to the vessel when he was stopped and searched at the security check point on the ship when the more than two pounds of cocaine was found on his person.
Locto was ordered to a pay of $700,000 fine or spend 11 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, taking steps to export cocaine and dealing in cocaine charges when he appeared in the Falmouth Parish court.
Locto has family in New York as well as Saint Lucia. After his arrest, his mother posted online February 3, 2018 a photo of dog tags which had this phrase, “To my son, always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and loved more than you know. Love mom”
Locto had worked for Norwegian Cruise Lines since fall 2013, with contracts aboard Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Escape.
Norwegian Escape embarked from Miami, Florida on Saturday January 13, 2018 for a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise with calls at Falmouth, George Town, Nassau and Great Strirrup Cay in the Bahamas before returning to Miami.
