On Friday, January 19, 2018, a cruise ship passenger aboard Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival Elation fell from her balcony on Grand Deck 14 to Verandah Deck 11.

Carnival spokeswoman Christine de la Huerta announced,  “Early this morning a guest fell from a balcony.  The ship’s medical team responded immediately, but, unfortunately, she passed away. The incident was reported to all proper authorities and CARE Team support was offered to fellow travelers and her family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family. Carnival Elation departed Jacksonville Jan. 18 on a four-day cruise to the Bahamas.”

Carnival Elation departed Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday,  January 18, 2018 for a  four-day Bahamas cruise with calls at Freeport and Nassau.  Carnival Elation was nearing Freeport, Bahamas at the time of the incident.

When the woman is identified, the case will be on the Cruise Ship Deaths website.

On Saturday, October 14, 2017, Zion Smith, 8, from Nassau, Bahamas had been sailing on 7-night Caribbean cruise aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Glory when she fell to her death just before disembarking the cruise ship around 0815 hours that morning.

In July 2009, Shirley McGill, 55, from Winnetka, California was on a five-night Carnival Elation Mexican Riviera cruise with her husband Robert when he brutally murdered her.
