The 2018 Winter Olympics and the 2018 Winter Paralympics will be held in Pyeongchang in South Korea. (see video below). They  begin on February 9, 2018 with an opening ceremony; the first game is on Saturday, February 10.  

According to South Korea news agency, Yonhap News, “The local government of Gangwon province in South Korea, where the Winter Olympics South Korea Olympics Cruise Ship will be held, has offered North Korea a cruise ship to ferry its team to the games”.

Pyeongchang is a county in Gangwon province of South Korea located in the Taebaek Mountains region. It is home to several Buddhist temples, including Woljeongsa. It is approximately 180 km (110 mi) east southeast of Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

Gangwon Governor Choi Moon-soon met with Mun Ung, the vice minister-level chairman of the North’s April 25 Athletic Committee, Choi reported said , “Choi offered to send a cruise to the North’s eastern port of Wonsan to transport the delegation to the South Korean provincial port of Sokcho. Wonsan has the massive Masik Ski Resort, where the North’s delegation can hold a launching ceremony for the Olympics.

In related news, Bloomberg news is reporting today, “President Donald Trump agreed not to conduct annual joint military drills with South Korea while the country hosts the winter Olympics next month, the South Korean president’s office said after the two leaders held a 30-minute phone call.”
