U.S. states were beginning to be hit by a brutal winter storm Wednesday. Winter Storm Grayson (see video below) is being called a “bomb cyclone”, or  Bombogenesis.

According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), “Bombogenes is  a popular term used by meteorologists, occurs when a mid-latitude cyclone rapidly intensifies, dropping at least 24 millibars over 24 hours. A millibar measures atmospheric pressure. This can happen when a cold air mass collides with a warm air mass, such as air over warm ocean waters. The formation of this rapidly strengthening weather system is a process called bombogenes is, which creates what is known as a bomb cyclone.”

Winter Storm Grayson is expected to affect travel to and from quite a few port cities in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Maine and north into Canada.

Specific travel to  and from these cruise ports will be affected. See the cruise ship schedules to see which ships may be affected.
