Rebel Media, a far-right group based in Canada, had planned to hold a week-long meeting aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) Caribbean Cruise. The trip was scheduled to leave in November from Miami and would call at Honduras, Belize, and Mexico.
From looking at the Norwegian Cruise Line website, it appears the cruise was booked aboard Norwegian Escape.
Rebel Media Youtube channel says, “TheRebel.media is your fearless source of news, opinion and activism. And some fun, too. We’re based in Canada but cover the world. Get the real story from Ezra Levant, Brian Lilley, Faith Goldy, Gavin McInnes, Lauren Southern, Tiffany Gabbay, Sheila Gunn Reid and the rest of the Rebel team.”
The Hope not Hate group sent a letter to NCL complaining that Rebel Media was a hate group. At the time NCL released a statement to Hope not Hate in response. It read: “As a matter of policy, we do not disclose or discuss the identities of our guests or groups. However, all guests who cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line are required to adhere to the Guest Conduct Policy while on board company vessels, which, among other things, prohibits verbally abusive or offensive language directed towards anyone on-board as well as inappropriate or abusive behaviour.”
Hope not Hate started a petition to pressure Norwegian Cruise Line into cancelling the cruise.
Who are Rebel Media?
About Ezra Levant – The Rebel Founder
According to Wikipedia, “A statement of claim for defamation was filed against Levant by Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) on December 22, 2016. The group alleges that Levant defamed them by comparing them to Nazis and calling them “Jew-baiters” over their campaign in support of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel due to that country’s treatment of Palestinians. CJPME is seeking $100,000 in damages and $20,000 for punitive or exemplary damages. In its statement of claim, CJPME asserts that BDS “is not a criticism or attack on Jewish people or upon any person because of their religion or ethnicity”, and that the group “decries hatred, violence, racism and religious targeting of Jewish people in Canada and throughout the world.”
About Gavin McInnes – The Rebel Host
Gavin McInnes has 219,976 Twitter followers, as of publish date. According to Wikipedia, “On February 2, 2017, in an episode of his YouTube show The Rebel, McInnes announced his resignation from Fox News.
McInnes was accused of antisemitism in March 2017 when, during a trip to Israel with The Rebel, he made controversial comments defending Holocaust deniers, accused the Jews of being responsible for the Holodomor and the Treaty of Versailles, and claimed that he was “becoming anti-Semitic”. He subsequently said his comments were meant to be humorous. McInnes also produced a satirical video for Rebel called “Ten Things I Hate about Jews”, later retitled “Ten Things I Hate About Israel”, which also resulted in accusations of antisemitism.”
The Holodomor was a man-made famine in Soviet Ukraine in 1932 and 1933 that killed an officially estimated 7 million to 10 million people. It was part of the wider Soviet famine of 1932–33, which affected the major grain-producing areas of the country.
About Hope Not Hate
According to their website, “HOPE not hate was established to offer a more positive and engaged way of doing anti-fascism. We prioritised working in communities to town centre demonstrations; we engaged and spoke to local people rather than to ourselves; and we realised that the BNP was tapping into a wider mood of alienation and hardship and it was important to address issues of concern to voters.”
“The Rebel Cruise is a holiday and lecture series for supporters of Rebel Media, a far-right alternative media outlet. It’s to be headlined by Gavin McInnes, known for his extreme online content and for openly promoting violence in the past.
It is set to sail this November on Norwegian Cruise Line – a global, publicly traded company and popular choice for thousands of tourists.
We believe Norwegian Cruise Line must take a stand against racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, and hatred of all kinds – but it has so far refused to act.”
UPDATE: Thanks to your support, Norwegian Cruise Line have contacted us to say that they have decided to cancel Rebel Media’s booking.
