John Howell Jr, 57, from Richmond, VA, best known as Seabourn Cruises’ Cruise Director, died on May 1, 2017.
John spent his life as a musical theater performer, choreographer and director, and the last 15 years as a cruise director for Seabourn Cruises.
He most recently had the opportunity to sail with Apple co-founder Steve “Woz” Wozniak . Wozniak was aboard Seabourn Odyssey’s 2014 Holiday voyage from Sydney, Australia to Auckland, New Zealand.
Mr. Wozniak, who traveled with his wife Janet, has a known proclivity for Australia, having stated that should he ever decide to leave Silicon Valley, he would relocate to Melbourne. In 2014, Wozniak was named a Distinguished Professor of Technology at Sydney’s University of Technology.
In 2014, Howell was aboard when the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, presented the prestigious Six Star Diamond Award to Seabourn Cruises.
He was remember by those who knew and love him as ” . . . a bonafide song-n-dance man. When he danced he soared. He sang like an angel. He was warm and funny, a loyal and devoted friend and husband, who gave it everything he had on-stage and off.”
John is survived by his actress wife Gail Cook Howell and missed by friends in his Cruise Ship Entertainers and Cruise Directors group.
