Children Witnessed Alcohol Fueled Memorial Day Cruise Passenger Overboard

On this day in cruise history: Eleven years today,  Ramesh Krishnamurthy, 35, from Doylestown, Pennsylvania jumped overboard on Saturday, May 27, 2006, during a Memorial Day week cruise aboard Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Legend, according to the captain and cruise director.

Carnival Legend was on an 8-day cruise to San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and Tortola the time of incident.

The official report says Krishnamurthy  was arguing with his wife over his bar tab, and he was under the influence of alcohol at the time he jumped overboard.

Krishnamurthy’s wife and his two children ages ages 5 and 4, witnessed the husband and father, climbing over their balcony railing and jumping off the ship.

There were angry passengers waiting to board the next cruise,  when the cruise ship came back to port. One passenger who posted on Cruise Critic, said that his wife was upset because she paid for an 8 day cruise, and will not get an 8 day cruise, and she is going to miss the Port of Tortola, where she had booked a dive excursion for her husband.
