Wikipedia Ship Facts

Last week, we received a notification by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL) of some exciting news. The newest member of Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis class of ships, Symphony of the Seas was prepared to get floated out.

Symphony of the Seas was closer to full completion, with the exterior now complete.  She was floated out of her dry dock on Friday, June 9, 2017 , by STX France SA at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France. The Atlantic Ocean ship building town has a population of 68,522.

Chantiers de l’Atlantique has completed a successful conversion to cruise ship building and is now one of the world leaders in this sector. The shipyard was purchased by Aker Yards. The following cruise ships were also built there in recent years.  Harmony Of The Seas, Hapag Lloyd Europa 2, MSC Fantasia, MSC Splendida, MSC Divina, MSC Preziosa, Norwegian Epic, MSC Opera MSC Lirica and Queen Mary 2.

Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 was built there in 2003. Close to the end of construction, a gangway to the dry-docked ship collapsed killing 16 people.
